This CD features two works for horn by Maurice Blower, both composed in the 1950’s.
Eclogue – a pastoral poem written in three continuous sections: Tranquillo ma con moto, Allegro Vivace and Tranquillo.
Concerto for Horn and Strings – was composed in 1951 and received its first performance by Dennis Brain in 1953. Written in three movements Allegro Risoluto, Lento and Allegro Vivace, it is an outstanding work for this instrument.
This is the first recording of these works, with kind permission of Thomas Blower, the composer’s son.
